The Ironhash trail provides an easy ride deep into the heart of the forest, mainly on forest roads and is ideal for getting a flavour of what mountain biking can offer.

Wide, easy singletrack

Like the all the other routes at Dalbeattie, the route starts out through the skills area on wide, easy singletrack before joining the forest road to ride out through Richorn Plantation.

A short uphill stretch leads to a traverse around Cloak Hill before the trail climbs again to circle the open marshland of the 'Dry Lock'. If you're lucky you'll get a good view of riders descending Dalbeattie’s famous 'Slab'. This marks the far point of the ride and as you enjoy the views it’s mostly downhill, retracing the route back to the trail head.

Took my 8 year old daughter out here today for 1st time. She loved the single track so think blue next. Great way to spend Oct holidays.

Trails: All Open

Conditions: Normal.

Diversions: None. However please note there will be timber lorries using the forest roads so please give way to them and never pass a lorry while it is loading unless signalled to do so by the operator. Road surface on the green route between waymarker posts 59 - 61 is uneven due to the forest machinery using it so please take care in this area.

Car parking is available in the Richorn car park, where the trail head is located and costs £3 per day

Toilets

Toilets available 400 metres past trailhead at Gorsebank.

Bike Hire

A bike wash is on site close to the trail head.
