Who Are The Glentress Trailfairies?

The Glentress Trailfairies are volunteers who help out with maintenance work on the existing bike trails and hand-build new sections of singletrack at Glentress Forest. The group was established in 2002.

Trailbuilding sessions take place on Saturdays from 9am - 1pm, roughly every fortnight.
No pre booking is required, just turn up on the day and say hello, you'll be made very welcome. We meet up at 9am at the toolshed in the Upper Overflow carpark (old Osprey car park) at Glentress.

Current Project: building a new 1.2km handcut descent at Glentress for the upcoming World Enduro Series event (27th - 31st May 2015, Tweed Valley).

Who Runs The Group

The Trailfairies is a Forestry Commission Scotland led volunteer group, with sessions normally supervised by one of the Mountainbike Rangers.

Under 12's - Please bring a parent or guardian to the sessions

Under 18's - Please bring a parent/guardian to the start of your first session to complete the Sign Up form (or even better bring them along to the sessions as well!).

Glentress has several parking options. The trail head is at Glentress Peel visitor centre. 

Car Parking Charges:

 £2 for 1 hour perfect if you’re stopping off for some food and refreshments in the café.
 £5 per day (or £3.50 for 3 hours). This applies to all car parks at this location Glentress Peel (over 100 spaces), Falla Brae, Buzzards Nest and our two overflow car parks.
You can pay car park charges by credit or debit card (with chip and pin) in the two Glentress Peel car parks and the Buzzard's Nest car park.  If you prefer to pay by cash the machines accept all denomination coins but do not accept notes.



Forest Park Gateway building (toilets, showers & changing) at Glentress Peel:

Open Sun - Fri 9am - 5pm

  Sat - 9am - 5.30pm

Showers cost £1 for 5 minutes

Bike Hire

Alpine Bikes

Trail Conditions

Glentress - Current at 26th Jun 2015


Trails: All open except: one section of Red MTB Route (Pennels Vennel) closed long term due to windblown trees.  Diversion in place.



From Mon 8th Jun to end of Mon 29th Jun the Upper Green mtb Route, including access to and from Janets Brae, will be closed due to resurfacing works on 'Janets Brae' forest road.  Skills Area will remain open but at times may only be accessible via top entrance that joins into Blue Skills loop, diversion in place from Buz Nest car park.  



Conditions: Good.  


Diversions: Red MTB Route diverted at post 37 (Pennels Vennel entry), rejoins Route at post 38 (Spookywood Climb entry). See also above.

Innerleithen - Current at 26th Jun 2015


DH Trails: All open. 


XC Trail:  All open.


Conditions: Good.  


Diversions: Short temporary diversion on XC Trail at the very end of the Lead Mine Climb and for first 100m of Clattering Path (post 18) due to storm damaged trees.
