Set in Galloway Forest, Glentrool offers wild windswept riding side by side with history and nature. Choose from:

The Big Country Route

The unique Big Country Route runs on minor public and forest roads without any singletrack. This route also features some magnificient views of the nearby lochs and hills.

Glentrool has two green-graded routes:

The Glen

The Glen is a short leisurely trail which is suitable for families looking for an unhurried pace. Taking you round the picturesque Palnagashel Glen.

The Palgowan

Also suitable for families, taking you north on charming forest roads. After a short climb, look forward to the long descent around Glencaird Hill. A short cut along the minor public road back to Glentrool Village is available if you want to miss out the climb.

Glentrool also has a blue-graded route:

The Green Torr

The Green Torr is nearly all on purpose-built singletrack. Climbing gradually up through the forest to overlook the picturesque Loch Trool.

Trail Conditions

Trails: All trails open with diversions in place.

  • Big Country Route: diversion in place from post 34 to post 39. Between markers 8 and 13 there is timber by the roadside. Please take extra care around this area and obey any signage.
  • Diversion in place at section between posts 61 and 63 due to tree harvesting. The diversion will be on the forest road via posts 78, 80 and 64.

 

Conditions: Normal.

 

Diversions: Big Country Route diversion in place from post 34, Black Loch, rejoining at post 39, just before Craigencallie. Diversion in place at section between posts 61 and 63 due to tree harvesting. The diversion will be on the forest road via posts 78, 80 and 64.

 

Other: Glentrool Visitor Centre open Saturday - Monday inclusive, 10.30am - 4.30pm (30th March - 28th October) and 10.30am - 5.30pm (6th July - 2nd September). Open all bank holiday weekends 10.30am - 5.30pm.

Glentrool Visitor Centre open Saturday - Monday inclusive, 10.30am - 4.30pm (30th March - 28th October) and 10.30am - 5.30pm (6th July - 2nd September). Open all bank holiday weekends 10.30am - 5.30pm. Nearby Newton Stewart also has a good selection of places to eat and drink.

Car parking is available at Glentrool Visitor Centre. Parking charges are as follows:

Glentrool Visitor Centre toilets now open - 10.30am - 4.30pm Saturday to Monday inclusive.

Bike Hire

There is a seasonal bike hire service available from The Break Pad, open 10am - 4.30pm, 7 days a week. Contact www.thebreakpad.com for more details.

Bike repairs, servicing, parts and accessories available at Kirkcowan Cycles in nearby Kirkcowan (15 mins away).
