Kirroughtree Skills Area

Kirroughtree Skills Area Stats

Grade: NG - Variable

This small, compact set of trails is an ideal warm up for your ride, or if you are new to mountain biking, they’ll give you a taste of the type of trail features you'll find at Kirroughtree.

Blue, red or black grade

Start at the car park by the visitor centre and follow the track to the main trails for around 200m. Turn in to the fenced skills area just before the top of the first singletrack climb and choose from the blue-, red- or black-graded runs. The skills trails pack a lot into a short distance and will demonstrate the more difficult obstacles you will meet - but don’t forget you can always get off and push the harder bits if you want to.

Tips provided

Riding tips on how to tackle each type of manoeuvre are provided for your guidance if needed.

Whichever line you take, once you’ve completed the skills trail you have the choice of returning to the car park, linking back to the first singletrack climb for another run though the skills area, or continuing on to the main trails. See the skills and tips page on this site for more riding hints.

Kirroughtree catering

Forestry Commission Scotland gave permission for a catering company to run its services during the Easter period, however, this has now been concluded. We are continuing to discuss with the company if it is possible to continue providing a service. The Commission is also exploring other options for providing catering.

In the meantime, visitors can get light refreshments from the Breakpad bikeshop. The Commission hopes to get catering services back as soon as possible and would like to apologise for any inconvenience.

Ample parking is at the trail head by the visitor centre. Parking costs £2 per day.
