Release date: 30/05/2011
The overall winner of the men’s open category Matt Page (who also won last year) completed 20 laps which equates to over 220 miles off road and ascent equivalent to climbing to the summit of Everest from sea level. Last year he managed 22 laps but because of the dreadful weather lap times were generally a little slower. This year there were in the region of 220 competitors across both the 12 and 24hr events compared to about 80 last year. Rock UK staff put down in the region of 90 tonnes of stone to improve the trails (thanks to Forestry Commission Scotland for the stone) and the hope is to make further improvements in time for next year’s race.
Sally Hall was the best placed rider from Whithaugh Park completing 6 laps in 10 hours and 10mins.
